SUMMARY:Fabio Staniscia\, "Surfactant exchange kinetics at the air-water interface"
DESCRIPTION:Surfactants continuously exchange between bulk solution and interfaces. This process governs dynamic interfacial properties such as time-dependent surface tension\, foam stability\, and wetting. While equilibrium adsorption isotherms are routinely measured\, the underlying desorption kinetics remain difficult to access experimentally\, especially for fast-exchanging\, low-molecular-weight surfactants. Here we use molecular dynamics simulations to quantify the residence times of short-chain alcohols at the air-water interface. We find that residence times increase exponentially with alkyl chain length and with surface coverage. Furthermore\, we show that the residence time scales linearly with the adsorption coefficient\, linking equilibrium binding affinity to kinetic persistence.\nhttps://indico.ijs.si/event/4179/

SUMMARY:Urban Čoko\, "Particle-based simulations of ultrasound in a GHz to MHz frequency range"
DESCRIPTION:Ultrasound is increasingly used in biomedical applications such as drug and gene delivery\, where acoustic waves interact with microbubbles\, cells\, and tissues. While particle-based simulations are widely used in biophysics to model such structures\, their use for ultrasound propagation remains largely restricted to nanoscopic scales. In this talk\, I will present a novel particle-based method for simulating ultrasound propagation in weakly compressible fluids on micrometer scales\, spanning frequencies from GHz to medically relevant MHz. The method is fully compatible with existing particle-based models of biological structures. Building on this method\, I will present a virtual ultrasound machine that models arbitrary particle-based structures immersed in a fluid between two ultrasound transducers. As a demonstration\, the machine is used to simulate microbubble motion driven by acoustic radiation forces\, a phenomenon known as “acoustophoresis”.\nhttps://indico.ijs.si/event/4062/

SUMMARY:Pol Morell: Taming Scheme Dependence in Precision EFTs: Formalism and Applications
DESCRIPTION:Effective Field Theories (EFTs) provide a universal language for physics across different energy scales. In modern high-energy physics\, advancing these theories to Next-to-Leading-Logarithmic (NLL) precision is crucial\, but doing so introduces a highly non-trivial dependence on the choice of renormalization scheme. In this talk\, I will present the formalism to systematically map results across different schemes and operator bases. Beyond presenting such a connection\, I will demonstrate how this framework directly translates into several interesting phenomenological applications. In particular\, I will give a special focus to how it has been successfully used to obtain the full set of four-fermion NLL renormalization group equations in the Low-Energy Effective Field Theory (LEFT).  \nhttps://indico.ijs.si/event/4060/

SUMMARY:Sheng Fong: Seesaw Cosmology
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we will look at seesaw cosmology where we assume the energy density of the Universe is dominated by nonrelativistic scalar field after inflation\, and perturbative reheating occurs when the scalar field transfers its energy to the Standard Model sector through right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) responsible for light-neutrino masses via the type-I seesaw mechanism. When produced relativistically and sufficiently long lived\, the RHNs generate a characteristic sequence of inflaton\, relativistic-RHN\, nonrelativistic-RHN\, and Standard Model radiation domination. Then\, we investigate the implications of seesaw cosmology for dark-matter production. We further study the regime where the phase space of RHN is saturated and quantum statistics becomes relevant\, obtaining a new power law in the temperature evolution during the scalar field domination era.\nhttps://indico.ijs.si/event/4007/
