[Biophysics seminar] Boris Rogelj: “Molecular and cellular basis of neurodegeneration”

| I will describe the basic molecular processes associated with disruption of homeostasis in a nerve cell and leading to neurodegeneration. We are mainly engaged in research into the causes of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia. We look at the mechanisms associated with mutations and with the altered behavior of certain genes, RNAs, and proteins. In particular, we study the interactions of these molecules, and their roles in processes such as nuclear transport, cellular stress response, and liquid-liquid phase separations characteristic of the formation of nonmembrane organelles. |
