Full Membership in CERN: Enhancing Slovenian Engagement in International Projects

Slovenia has officially become a full member of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), marking a significant milestone in its scientific and research community. This new status is expected to boost the involvement of Slovenian researchers and institutions in cutting-edge international projects, particularly in the fields of particle physics and engineering.

The full membership will provide Slovenian scientists access to advanced research facilities and collaborations with some of the world’s leading experts.

Government officials have expressed optimism that this membership will not only elevate Slovenia’s profile in the global scientific community but also inspire future generations of researchers. The move is seen as a critical step towards strengthening Slovenia’s position in international research networks, paving the way for increased funding opportunities and collaborative projects.

On Friday, 25 October 2024, a round table on this topic was held with participation of our Head of Department, prof. dr. Jernej Fesel Kamenik.

He stated: “CERN has been a unique meeting point for many years for researchers from different parts of the world to meet and collaborate, regardless of cultural or political differences. At the same time, it is also an important scientific centre where researchers can gain outstanding experience and broaden their horizons.”
