CERN Council Adopts Updated Strategy

Researchers from our Department of Theoretical Physics and the Department of Experimental Particle Physics at the Jožef Stefan Institute actively participated in the preparation of the update to the European Strategy for Particle Physics, which was adopted by the CERN Council on May 22, 2026.

The strategy is a key document that sets out the long-term directions for the development of particle physics in Europe and confirms the continued exploitation of the scientific potential of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), while recommending the Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee). The FCC-ee would enable extremely precise measurements of the Higgs boson and other elementary particles and open up new possibilities for discovering physics beyond the Standard Model.

The participation of researchers from both departments of the Jožef Stefan Institute in international expert discussions on the formulation of the European strategy confirms the important role of Slovenian scientists in the international particle physics community and Slovenia’s continued involvement in major European research projects.
