Dr. Matej Krajnc has been awarded RSF funding for his FUTURE project, titled “MEchanics, Topology, And Geometry of Natural Optimizing Networks.”
The RSF Committee announced the award after reviewing 42 proposals, including 22 under the FUTURE category. Following a rigorous selection process, which included interviews with eight shortlisted candidates for FUTURE projects, dr. Matej Krajnc was selected for four years of funding, starting July 1, 2024.
The project addresses the mechanics, topology, and geometry of natural space-filling packings, such as honeycombs in bee societies and cell aggregates in tumors. By integrating experiments, theory, simulations, and citizen science, it aims to uncover how nature deals with densely packed spaces.
