The recently issued Encyclopedia of Particle Physics aims at a pedagogical introduction to the majority of topics in elementary particle physics. It is targeted at physicists in general and includes theory and experiment.
Prof. Sasa Prelovsek Komelj wrote a chapter entitled “Lattice QCD calculations of hadron spectroscopy” [link], which introduces ab-initio studies of hadrons.

The table of contents is available at the Elsevier homepage, while the full chapters are unfortunately not open access. However, they can all be easily found on the arxiv or inspire.hep by searching for author/title.
